GHF Open Village 2020

The GHF Open Village 2020 was a the first edition of a series of participatory activities to value health as commons. A second edition is planned in May 2022.

It is a joint initiative of the Geneva Health Forum and Open Geneva, realized by Breathing Games.

Context

The first edition of the Geneva Health Forum Open Village was initially planned during the Geneva Health Forum, from March 23 to 26 at CICG. Due to restrictions imposed by Swiss autorities, the GHF and consequently the Open Village finally took place online from November 16 to 18.

This event was co-organized by Fabio Balli, Mathilde Matringue, Clément le Couédic, and Emmanuel Kellner. Its budget of CHF 32'215.– was covered by a Genevan association, in-kind contributions from the Geneva Health Forum, Open Geneva and the Breathing Games Association.

Projects presented were Breathing Games, EchOpen, Aura, LogAir, E-nable, Open Humans, Open Source Imaging, Open Source Drug Discovery, and Fuga.

The activity was promoted by the Quebec Population Health Research Network and the Young European Biotech Network.

6 in 10 humans still have no access to care,[1] or do not adhere to it,[2] despite rising investments.[3]Alcohol-based hand rub[4] and WikiMed[5] illustrate how creating freely reproducible equipment and software with communities can: save millions of lives, increase integrity, cut costs by 90%.[6]

Cooperation-driven care is the only way to realize the 2030 agenda in time: health for everyone.[7]We present alternatives to the dominant proprietary excluding innovation model, to drive development towards a responsible, solidar society.

Contribute to access to care

Goal: share your field experience to help us identify needs and challenges to move forward with the projects. Visual mapping, max 60 min

Fablab: reproducing open hardware

Goal: Discover how to conceive and reproduce hardware. 90-minute technology workshops.

Mutualizing best practices

Goal: Leaders of open hardware projects put in common their best practices to create a guide. 90-minute discussions.

Poster synthesis

Synthesis of the GHF Open Village 2020

A synthesis was released in nine languages (6 UN languages + Hindi, Bengali, Portuguese) as a poster.

  1. English – Health technology as commons: trustable, affordable, adaptable.
  2. Chinese – 公有制下的健康科技: 可信赖, 可负担, 可适应.
  3. Hindi – आमजन-स्वामित्व के रूप में स्वास्थ्य प्रौद्योगिकी: विश्वसनीय, अनुकूल एवं किफ़ायती.
  4. Spanish – La tecnología de la salud como común: confiable, asequible, adaptable.
  5. Arabic – تكنولوجيا الصحة ذات الملكية المشتركة : موثوقة، متاحة وقابلة للتكّيُف.
  6. Bengali – সর্ব সাধারনের জন্য সাস্থ্য প্রযুক্তিঃ বিশ্বাসযোগ্য,সাশ্রয়ী,অভিযোজনযোগ্য.
  7. French – Technologies de santé en communs : fiables, abordables, adaptables.
  8. Russian – Технологии здравоохранения для всех: надежные, доступные, адаптивные.
  9. Portuguese – A tecnologia de saúde como comuns: confiável, acessível, adaptável.
